The 90's

15 years ago bringing drugs over from Mexico was much easier. One could drive down to Big Bend and park in a parking lot at the border and a guy with a boat would be waiting to take people over for the cost of a dollar. The town on the other side was Boquillas. Only 300 or so people lived there. The Mexican Mafia was prominent there and would make special deals with gringos looking for goods. In 1994 we traded a cruddy acoustic guitar, 10 hits of acid, a pair of sunglasses and a digital watch for 50 peyote buttons and 6 lbs of weed, They put the weed in a dufflebag also stuffed with orange peels to cover the smell. Walk back to the Rio Grande the next day after tripping all night(and vomiting)on peyote and wait for the boatman. Give him another dollar and drive back home.

At the time, all this seemed needlessly complicated, especially when the guys trading with us said they wanted us to come back and bring money for what we had sold. We never went back after that one time. We(4 of us) made around 3k. One of my friends who went bought his girlfriend a diamond ring. I just bought more weed.
